MRS. PERKINS

Every morning, I would wake up from my deep sleep, roll out of bed and brush my teeth with my loved one. I would kiss him goodbye on his way to work and take our dog for a little walk. Putting on my coat and walking carefully down the slippy slop. I made my way to the bus stop across the street. Twenty minutes past as always and the bus creaked up ever so late. I'd take my usual sit past the putgoing passengers and next to our usual bunch. Alyssa sat left of me, gossiping about her work to her best friend on the phone and Mrs. Perkins always sat a sit in front of me. Now, Mrs. Perkins had an unusual stop. It inched only a few feet away from the corner of the street. When the bus would turn, conductors would pass it with much ease. Mrs. Perkins didn't like that. Dealt with it too many times she has. Mrs. Perkins would yell and yell, startling me awake and when the bus finally stopped in its tracks, Mrs. Perkins would give a good lesson to the conductor and be on her way.

Mrs. Perkins was a simple woman. Always keeping her knitted scarf close to her and being well bundled up for the chilly days. She wore her non-slip boots tightly to her frame and hunkered down good to her sit.

Being as she enjoyed the simple things in life, I wanted to give her a little bit of joy today. I heaved myself into the bus and passed my metro card over for charge. Sat down in mu usual spot, but this time, instead of resting my eyes. I asked Mrs. Perkins a question, "Good morning to you ma'am, it's early, but how is your morning going?" Mrs. Perkins looked me up and down, and gave me a glance. She lowered her head back in her scarf like a curious turtle that felt back in ease. In a polite and low voice she spoke with a beginning sigh, "I'm tired. Didn't sleep much because of my back and the bus pains me more." Seeing as we did, have a bit of a journey before her stop. I fettled with my coat pocket and found the miniature Hershey's bar that I had grabbed before leaving my home this morning. "Well ma'am, I hope this eases your mind some." I handed her the piece of chocolate and her eyes lit up with joy. "Oh, darling you don't have to." She said with a sweet voice. "Don't worry, please enjoy." I spoke with a ushering tone. "She raised up her hands and I placed the chocolate done. She unwrapped the chocolate piece ever so carefully, to keep its perfection in tact. She popped the chocolate in her mouth and a smile lifted at the sides of her face. She curled down into her sit and motioned the chocolate in her mouth. I knew her stop was coming up, so I pulled on the bright yellow cord and the stop requested light lite up at the front of the bus. She straightened up and gestured her body up on the sit. The bus came to its halt and Mrs. Perkins was on her way.
